G’day
Well here it is – the final newsletter for 2011. Another year is about to leave us yet again. Since the last newsletter, once again we’ve travelled a few miles, attending many festivals including Bedgerebong, Mildura, Ariah Park, Rosewood (or should I say SNAKE WOOD as the slipperies were out in force), Leeton, and finishing up at Latrobe Valley CMF. All festivals were well supported, with a special mention going to Ariah Park, which looked like being abandoned earlier in the year but was a great festival this year.
After being home now for a couple of weeks, I’ve been kept busy around the yard mowing, etc, and even though we enjoy being out on the road touring each year, it’s always nice to have some home time. I did manage to get the boat out on the water last weekend to do some fishing but it sure would have been cheaper to visit the local fish shop, so again - plenty of chips, no fish!
Well I must say, I’ve had another pretty busy year out on the road touring and will look forward to doing it all again in 2012. Over all, it has been a good year, with all shows and festivals proving to be successful ventures, and now only one show to go before Christmas at the Yamba Bowls Club on Sunday 12 December. Unfortunately my show which was booked at the Wee Waa Golf Club had to be cancelled due to flooding and has been postponed to Friday 2 March 2012. A special thank you to all who attended and supported the shows and festivals throughout the year - your valued support is much appreciated.
My new Album release this year, “Bushman’s Dreaming”, has ended the year on a high note, scoring a finalist position in the awards at Bungendore for Male Vocalist with the song “Saddle is his home”, which has also been selected to be included on a new album, ”Not so Dusty 2”, as a tribute to Slim Dusty, being produced by the Nulla Records label. This will be released during the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Tamworth CMF will be my first engagement for 2012 kicking of at The Pub on Saturday 21 January, then on Sunday 22nd out at the Dag Sheep Station where again I will present my Back to the Bush show, followed by my usual Peel Street and Oasis Hotel performances, with a visit to the South Bowlo in between.
Well folks, with the festive season fast approaching and only weeks away, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Lyn and myself to wish you a Merry Christmas along with a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Once again, we would like to thank you all for your wonderful and valued support through out the year.
I guess it’s that time of year, no doubt, when the cooks like to excel and add a little Christmas spirit so I’ve decided to pass on another of my famous Christmas recipes. Please note, this is an Adults only recipe and should be cooked and eaten with caution, and above all, enjoyed.
Regards Tom
Tom’s Tequila Christmas Cookies
1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup of nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle of tequila
-Sample the tequila in a large glass to check quality.
-Take a large bowl, and check the tequila again, to be sure it is of the highest quality. Pour one level cup and drink.
-Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl, add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.
-At this point, it’s best to make sure the tequila is still OK, so try another cup.
-Turn off the mixer thingy.
-Break two legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
-Pick the fruit and the damn cup off the floor.
-Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver.
-Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity.
-Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Check the tequila.
-Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

G’day
Well, here we are midway through the year already. I’ve been busy over the past couple of months appearing at several festivals including Horsham, Hartwood, Mulwala, Barham, Wagga and just recently, Corowa. Hartwood, again this year,
was a great festival, as usual, where I released my new album “Bushmans Dreaming”. The album includes a couple of old classics including Maggie and Picture in a Frame as well as some traditional old Bush Ballad songs and a
special tribute to my late great mate, Ray Rose. To date, the album has been selling extremely well, along with receiving some very positive feedback from both media and fans. All festivals have been well supported with good
audiences in attendance. It’s nice to be back home again for a couple of weeks but before we know it, we’ll be on the road again.
I’m now in the process of getting ready for the Queensland leg of this year’s tour which will include Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Cloncurry, Mount Isa, Camooweal, Springwood and Nanango. I must say I’m
looking forward to getting back up to the Isa as it has been a couple of years since I last performed at the Rodeo - the big highlight this year will be performing the National Anthem. Before heading off to Qld, I will be presenting
my Back to the Bush Show on Saturday 9 July, 12.00 pm at the Pub in Tamworth during the Hat’s Off Festival weekend.
Yard maintenance has been kept to a minimum while I’ve been away due to the severe frosts, though it doesn’t seem to affect the weeds so have a little work to do around the yard before heading off again and no doubt the old pot belly
stove will get a work out before we go!
HEARTBREAKING NEWS – Forgot to mention in the last newsletter, sadly I farewelled “OLD TROOPIE” WHO HAS GONE ON TO ANOTHER LIFE AFTER COUNTRY MUSIC. For better or worse, I’m not sure, I hate to think about it, as over the
past decade she has served us well, along with her ups and downs and clicking up 600,000 km on the clock. It was hard to say goodbye. Don’t think I’VE LOST THE PLOT, BUT I LOVED HER.
FESTIVAL REMINDER – Many of you may have heard on the grapevine that Ariah Park was not holding their festival this year. I have received confirmation from Nigel Judd (committee chairman) that the festival will be going ahead on
the weekend of 14, 15, & 16 October. Artists appearing include myself, Sharon Benjamin, Royden Donohue and local duo, Leather and Lace. Other festivities over the weekend include a poet’s breakfast along with walk-ups and buskers,
as well as street markets on the Sunday. Camping is available at the showground as well as the football grounds. Further enquiries can be made by contacting Nigel on 0428 741026 or email nigeljudd@bigpond.com.au
Don’t forget - other festival dates for the Calendar this year include: Camooweal 26, 27 & 28 August, Nanango 9, 10 & 11 September, Bedgerebong 23, 24 & 25 September, Mildura 30 September to 9 October,
Rosewood 21, 22 & 23 October, Leeton 28, 29 & 30 October, Latrobe Valley CMF 4 & 5 November.
Well folks, not a great deal of goss to elaborate on this quarter. Looking forward to catching up somewhere, sometime soon.
Regards, Tom
This Quarter’s Humour – A young ventriloquist is touring the clubs and one night he’s doing a show in a small country town. With his dummy on his knee, he starts going through his usual dumb blonde jokes when a blonde woman
in the 4th row stands on her chair and starts shouting:
“I’ve heard enough of your stupid blonde jokes! What makes you think you can stereotype women that way?
What does the colour of a person’s hair have to do with her worth as a human being? It’s men like you who keep women like me from being respected at work in the community, and from reaching our full potential as people.
Because you and your kind continue to perpetuate discrimination against not only blondes, but women in general … and all in the name of humour!”
The embarrassed ventriloquist begins to apologise, but the blonde yells, “You stay out of this mate! I’m talking to the little smart ass on your lap!”

TOM MAXWELL RIDGEE DIDGE FAN CLUB NEWS DECEMBER 2010

G'day,
Well here it is, the final Newsletter for 2010 - doesn't seem that long ago I started off saying “Well here it is, the first Newsletter for 2010”. Another year has almost slipped by us again, with the festive season fast approaching. It has been nice to spend some time at home over the last few weeks, though I still had a couple of festivals to do before taking a break, including the Slim Dusty Music Memories weekend at Kempsey which was a great weekend and the second Mulwala Country Music Spectacular early in November which proved to be a very successful weekend again. I must admit I wasn't feeling the best but managed to get through the weekend. Following on from Mulwala, I had shows to do at Millers Forest, Tenterfield, Yamba, Evans Head and my final show for the year, believe it or not, was home here in Tamworth. Since then I've been kept busy around the yard, mowing, attending the vegie patch, getting ready for the Tamworth festival and preparing for a new album, so really, there’s no rest for the wicked (well, so they say). On the subject of the Tamworth Festival, I received some good news on 25 November to notify me that I'd been selected as a top five finalist for the upcoming Golden Guitar awards in the Bush Ballad category, with the song “Kings without a Crown”, written by my old mate, Ray Rose. Also another great surprise was being announced as a finalist at Bungendore in the Album of the Year category for my album “Further Out”. So a couple of early Christmas presents I'm really happy with! Guess Lyn has some shopping to do to match it (Ha Ha).
The year out on the road touring and promoting the album has been a great success and we look forward to doing it all over again in 2011. Maybe by then the rains may have eased. It has been great to see the countryside so green, as for many years of travelling, I've never seen the country side look so wonderful, yet now, in many areas, people are experiencing flooding.
I have already received confirmation re several festival appearances next year starting off at Bungendore then onto Barham, Horsham, Hartwood, Mulwala and Wagga, to start the year off so it will be busy times on the road again. For those who have internet access, a full list of dates is available on the Tour Guide page at www.tommaxwell.com.au which will be updated on a regular basis as confirmations come to hand. The website throughout the year has had a large increase in visitors, along with the electronic mailout system introduced a couple of months back - still working on a couple of things which should improve that service in the near future. Thank you to those who have opted to use this system and a reminder, should you change your email address, please notify us ASAP so your details can be updated.
Recording News – As at this stage, I'm booked into the studio for a couple of days after the Tamworth festival to lay some more beds down for the new album (if I have any voice left after the festival). I already have a couple down - still a long way to go. I'm hoping for an Easter launch for the album at Hartwood. The song selection for a new album is always a difficult task, as there are so many great songs out there, it's hard to select just a few.
New Venue For Tamworth Festival – During the festival in Tamworth 2011, I will be presenting a show at the Dag Sheep Station out at Nundle. The show, “Back to the Bush”, will feature many of the bush ballads I've recorded over the past decade, starting at 12.00 noon. Tickets, including meal, can be booked online for this show by visiting www.tommaxwell.com.au and then going to the Tour Guide page and selecting the appropriate link. Love to see ya there.
Merchandise – At the moment we are currently awaiting our order of Fan Caps and Visors which are due to arrive any day. We have chosen a few different colour schemes for the caps this time, including the standard black/white, navy/gold along with grey/black, as well as stone/black. The Visors will only be available in two colours: pink/white and purple/white. Ladies, get in early for the Visors as we have only a limited order. Items will be available at all shows at a cost of $15.00 each or mail order, adding ($3.00 p&h).
Throughout 2011 will see the introduction of new style packaging for a couple of the albums - this being a wallet style package. This type of package will avoid many broken cases that we've had in recent times and will also be a lot better for postage.
Well, above all, it's been a great year and on behalf of Lyn and myself, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued support throughout the year and to also wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS 2011.
Regards, Tom & Lyn

G’day
Sorry the newsletter is late, better late than never the old saying goes. Life on the road becomes a bit hectic at times specially trying to keep up with office duties. I’m pleased to say the
2010 tour has been a great success with no real major hiccups except a slight PA problem during the show at Hind Marsh Valley and the dramatic change of weather patterns. Since the last letter we’ve clicked up a few miles on the new troopie which is going well. Except for our little problem with the PA System my show at the Hind Marsh Valley Hall was a great success again this year. After spending a few days at Goolwa we then headed to Adelaide for a show at the Munopara Bowls club. Good to see country music has a great following in SA. Following on from Munopara it was then onto Moonta and Port Pirie for shows which had good attendances at both shows. After leaving Port Pirie it was time to head for the Stuart Hwy and make our way up to Alice Springs. Well at last we’d thought we’d left the wet weather behind us. This wasn’t the case. A few of my favorite camp spots had been inundated which made getting off the road impossible. On one occasion we did manage to get off the road and set up camp, fire and all then during the night the heavens opened again. Lucky where still not there. Upon opening the door at daylight it was like stranded on an island with water everywhere. I must say I don’t think I’ve seen the centre look so good with plenty of green all around and the wattle and wild flowers in full bloom .After our week in Alice springs playing in the Todd Mall and Sunday markets it was time to move on to Camooweal for the drovers festival. The festival at Camooweal this year again was a great weekend as usual including a fun night at the pub prior to the festival. From Camooweal it was on to Emerald and Thangool for shows. Again the rain had caught up with us a with four inches falling over night at Thangool. With flood water rising rapidly we wasted no time getting on the road to head for the Nanango Country Muster. Nanango this year again was a great festival with over 600 caravans and motor homes filling the showground .After Nanango we normally come home for a couple of weeks before heading to the Mildura Festival but this year it was straight from Nanango to Broken Hill where I played for two nights at the Legions Club .It was good returning to Broken Hill for a couple of shows as it has been many years since I played there last. We enjoyed a campout before arriving in Mildura for the festival. Another good festival this year .Good weather though a couple of cool days. At last we were on the downhill run for the 2010 tour .One festival to go before heading home. This was the Begerabong ( near Forbes ) Country music campout weekend. What a great venue at the showground. This was a great weekend which I’m sure is going to grow and become a very popular festival on the festival
calendar. Finally October 11th arrived home. Have a few days now to catch up and start preparing
for Tamworth 2011.Still a couple of festivals to do before the end of the year including the Slim Dusty Country Music Memories Weekend 25th – 31st Oct and Mullwalla 5th – 6th – 7th November along with a few other shows. Check tour guide for details. Well that just about wraps up the news for this quarter and look forward to catching up again somewhere soon.
Regards Tom
*GOOD PLANNING
The local news station was interviewing an 84 – year – old lady because she had just gotten married – for the fourth time.
The interviewer asked her questions about her life, about what it felt like to be marrying again at 84, and then about her new husband’s occupation.
He’s a funeral director,” she answered. Interesting,” the newsman thought.
He then asked her if she wouldn’t mind telling him a little about her first three husband’s and what they did for a living.
She paused for a few moments, needing time to reflect on all those years. After a short time, a smile came to her face and she answered proudly, explaining that she first married a banker when she was in her early 20s, then a circus ringmaster when in her 40s, later on a preacher in her 60s, and now, in her 80s, a funeral director.
The interviewer looked at her, quite astonished, and askedwhy she had married four men with such diverse careers.
“Easy, son,” she smiled. “I married one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go!”
